Volunteering

Volunteers play a vital role in the smooth running of services at Halifax Society for the Blind. Without our dedicated team of volunteers, we would not be able to offer the current extensive range of support and activities to those living with sight loss in Calderdale. We are constantly creating new roles for volunteers as our services develop and are looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to work with us.

Volunteering should be a rewarding and fulfilling experience and here at HSB we do everything in our power to make sure that volunteering with us is exactly that. Volunteering for Halifax Society for the Blind is an opportunity for you to develop new skills, gain valuable experience, meet new people and have fun in a friendly and supportive environment. In addition to this, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have made a difference to someone’s life.

As part of the induction process, volunteers are invited to attend a comprehensive training package which covers Safeguarding, Confidentiality, Values and Attitudes, AVIATOR training and sighted guiding training. DBS checks are completed, at no expense to yourself and references are taken.  Ongoing training and support are offered throughout your time volunteering with us as well as regular social events.

There are a variety of volunteering roles at HSB, whether you prefer face to face support or volunteering from the comfort of your own home we have a role for you. All out of pocket expenses are reimbursed in line with our Volunteer Expenses Policy

We offer an inclusive environment to all our volunteers, so please feel encouraged to apply.
